The principal of a Delaware County elementary school was jailed over the weekend after allegedly assaulting his live-in girlfriend.

Michael A.P. Jordan, principal of the Darby Township School in Glenolden, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, according to a district staff member.

Police were called about 7:30 a.m. Saturday for a domestic assault on the 2300 block of Highland Ave. in Drexel Hill. According to Upper Darby Superintendent Michael Chitwood, officers had been called to the house "numerous times in the last few years."

As they pulled up, a woman ran out of the house.

"She was battered, with a bloody face and hysterical," Chitwood said. "She told officers she was beaten by her boyfriend inside the house."

The woman, who Chitwood said is a teacher at another school in the Southeast Delco School District, said the beating stemmed from an argument the previous night.

"She said Jordan hollered at her for sleeping in another bedroom, then dragged her out of bed, and pushed her up against a wall," Chitwood said. "She ran to the window and yelled for help."

A neighbor heard her and dialed 911, Chitwood said.

Police took the woman to Delaware County Hospital where she was treated for contusions and a bloody lip and released.

Jordan, 45, charged with assault and reckless endangerment, was taken to Delaware County Prison where he was held on $10,000 cash bail.

Chitwood said Jordan does not have a prior criminal record, Chitwood said.

Assistant principal Ashwina Mosakowski will run the school while Jordan is on leave, a school district official said.
