LIKE FATHER, like son. Or in this case, like son, like father.

A Chadds Ford man was arrested for driving under the influence this weekend after showing up drunk at the State Police barracks in Media to pick up his son, who had been arrested earlier in the night for the same offense, according to a news release.

Police said Timothy Smith arrived at the barracks about 10:45 p.m. Saturday and told troopers that he was there to pick up his son, who'd been arrested for drunk driving. However, the observant troopers took one whiff of Smith and deduced he'd been imbibing himself, the news release said.

Story continues below.

Smith told troopers that he'd driven from his house in Chadds Ford to the barracks. Police told him that, like his son, he was under arrest for DUI.

The circumstances prompting Smith's arrest are not as unusual as you might think.

In fact, the same thing happened to Timothy Wright, of Wilmington, Del., when he went to pick up a lady friend who'd been arrested for DUI early on Jan. 15. Police said that instead of telling her to call someone else or a cab, Wright went to the Media barracks drunk and was arrested for DUI.
