Wed. Pa. boys' roundup: Glen Mills pins down league title

Glen Mills' convincing effort clinched the Del-Val League title with a 56-15 win over visiting Academy Park.

The Bulls won all but three matches, two of which were by forfeit. Travis Abbot's 5:53 pin at 5:53 at 132 pounds over Alex Eskridge was one of Glen Mills' five pins. Maurice Geter at 113 pounds and 160-pound Don Heidelberg both scored major decisions.

Suburban One. Norristown captured its fourth straight league title with an easy 72-6 win at Upper Merion. Larry Gordon's 39-second pin at 195 pounds was the fastest of the Eagles' eight pins.

Pioneer. Owen J. Roberts romped at Pottsgrove, 74-6, to capture the league title. Aston White scored a pin in 36 seconds at 106 pounds and Dan Garges recorded a 12-0 major decision at 138 pounds to lead the Wildcats.

Perkiomen Valley won five of the first six weight classes en route to an easy 57-15 win over visiting Perkiomen School. Derek Buckley started the match off with 1:13 pin at 120 pounds and was followed by Tyrelle Robinson's 1:25 pin at 126 pounds.

Ches-Mont. Great Valley dominated the upper weight classes as it took down visiting Octorara, 52-16. The Jaguars won six of the eight matches between 145 pounds and 285 pounds. Matt Greco highlighted the stretch with a 1:37 pin over Christian Romero at 160 pounds.

Bicentennial. Dylan Clarke needed just 58 seconds to pin Jason DiPietro at 138 pounds as Bristol rolled over visiting Phil-Mont Christian, 48-21. Giovanni Esquilin aided the win with a 1:49 pin at 220 pounds.

Central. Strath Haven won five straight matches by forfeit as it topped host Penncrest, 56-24. The Panthers' Brandon McCullough had a 5:05 pin at 170 pounds over Hunter Seufert and was followed by five straight forfeit wins.

Sam Byrum scored an 11-4 decision at 106 pounds and Haverford High rolled over visiting Harriton, 54-15.  

Nonleague. The Haverford School won four of the first five bouts before coasting at Academy of the New Church, 52-30. Jay Hervada started the match with a 2:49 pin at 132 pounds and was followed by the Fords' second fastest pin of the night, Remy Yang in 40 seconds at 138 pounds. L.J. Barlow had the fastest pin in 31 seconds at 195 pounds.

 

Basketball

Dinjyl Walker's season-high 28 points, seven assists, eight rebounds and five steals led Academy of the New Church past Shipley, 54-51, at Westtown in the Friends Schools League semi-finals.
