Wed. Pa. girls' roundup: Friends' Central easily takes semifinal

Friends' Central's strong presence on the low block helped the host Phoenix roll on Wednesday in the Friends Schools League semifinal over George School, 41-13.

Meghan Cartafalsa grabbed 16 rebounds along with 10 points and Maria Conyers-Jordan hauled in 11 rebounds and scored 19 points.

In the other semi, Asia Baker's 12 points led Shipley past visiting Abington Friends, 36-16. Jordyn Turner chipped in with seven rebounds.

Public. Communications Tech picked up its first ever playoff win with a 36-33 quarterfinal win over visiting AA foe Science Leadership.

Khadijah Gardner led the way with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Bryce Garrett added 13 assists and Breiannah Jones had seven steals. The Phoenix are in their eighth season.

In the AAAA quarterfinal, sophomore point guard Tenee Pina scored 17 of her 20 points in the second quarter as host Girls High slipped past Franklin Towne Charter, 40-35.

Catholic. Senior guard Shannon Shields knocked down three three-pointers in the first half as Archbishop Carroll rolled at West Catholic, 56-21. Shields finished with a game-high 11 points.

Penn-Jersey. G'Mrice Davis helped Girard College capture the league title with a 43-39 OT win over Solebury School at Morrisville. The 6-2 sophomore center scored five of her team's six points in the fourth quarter and finished with a team-high 13.

Nonleague. Tyshay Britten grabbed 10 rebounds and Stephanie DiNolfi dished out seven assists as Norristown downed host Chester, 63-46.


Megan Huhn led Archbishop Prendergast past visiting Neumann-Goretti, 4-0, in the Catholic League quarterfinals.

The senior bowled a 215 high game and 551 high series. She has recorded the team's high game and series in each of Prendie's 15 matches.

Jamie Heiman bowled a 154 game and 411 series for the Saints.
