A Chester County woman has been charged in the theft of $50,000 worth of jewelry from a friend's Bryn Mawr home last year, police said Tuesday.

Ann Gleeson, 34, of West Chester, surrendered to police Feb. 2 and was charged with the theft from the home on the 1100 block of Springmont Circle in Bryn Mawr, Lower Merion Police Sgt. John Stillwagon said.

The homeowner reported the theft on Oct. 10. Authorities believe it had occurred between Oct. 2 and 7.

Police said they identified Gleeson as a suspect because she had been in the house around the time of the theft and was reportedly a family friend.

Gleeson was released after posting $10,000 bail. Her attorney waived a hearing scheduled for Thursday, and she now faces a formal arraignment in Norristown on March 14. - Josh Fernandez
