2 bank robberies, 2 quick arrests

Acting quickly, police arrested suspects in two separate bank robberies in Philadelphia today.

In the first stickup, a woman walked into the PNC Bank Branch at 602 S. Washington Square in Society Hill, about 8:10 a.m. and passed a note to a teller, police said.

The teller handed over about $2,000 and the robber fled in a red taxi minivan, police said.

Police later spotted the minivan at 33rd Street and Ridge Avenue in Strawberry Mansion and pulled it over. Inside they found the woman and recovered the cash, police said.

At 12:25 p.m., a man walked into the Beneficial Bank at 826 E. Allegheny Ave. in Kensington and also handed a demand note to a teller, police said.

He fled with about $400 and a dye pack hidden in the money exploded, police said. Highway Patrol officers spotted him at G Street and East Erie Ave, where they arrested him and recovered the loot.

Police have not released the name of either suspect pending formal charges.
