A blog item posted Tuesday about Bart Blatstein's intention to make a bid for the Daily News' owner, Philadelphia Media Network, was pulled down from Philly.com by company management.
PMN spokesman Mark Block said he had been concerned that the news release referenced in the post to Philly Clout by reporter David Gambacorta "could be construed as more than it was, by creating the impression that Blatstein and his partners were in negotiations for the purchase of Philadelphia Media Network.
"It was never my intent to question the accuracy of David's reporting," Block said. "David is nationally known for his exceptional investigative stories, and this blog posting would be no exception to his stellar record of diligence and professionalism in getting the story right."
Said Gambacorta yesterday: "The blog post simply stated that Bart Blatstein had formed a company that was interested in buying the papers. It did not suggest in any way that he was actively negotiating with PMN."
