A 50-year-old man has been arrested and charged with being the thief who was caught on surveillance cameras stealing $400 from a cash box at a South Philadelphia funeral home.

Police credited an anonymous tip with leading them to arrest John R. Mancuso last week.

Mancuso, of the 800 block of Porter Street in South Philadelphia, has been charged with burglary, theft and related charges in the larceny at the Carto Funeral Home, 2212 S. Broad St.

Police released a video of the burglary on Jan. 26 and later that day received the tip that helped break the case.

Court records show Mancuso has a history of arrests, including one on the day after the funeral home burglary on charges of burglary and criminal trespass after allegedly entering a house where a resident was still home.

The records also show that Mancuso served time in the racially motivated beating of two black men by a gang in Kensington in 1989.
