An ex-police officer pleaded guilty today to stealing $352 from a man he thought was panhandler when he was still on the force, Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams' office said.
The panhandler was an undercover member of the police Internal Affairs Unit.
The former officer, Kevin Workman, was sentenced to 36 months probation and ordered to pay $1,875 in restitution, the DA's office said.
Internal Affairs set up the undercover operation after receiving complaints about two other victims of Workman.
Workman, who was arrested Sept. 30, pleaded guilty to theft, obstruction of justice and official oppression.
