Heat falls to Magic

February 09, 2012|DAILY NEWS WIRE REPORTS
  • Heat's LeBron James (right) loses ball as he collides with Magic's Dwight Howard in first half.

DWIGHT HOWARD had 25 points and 24 rebounds, Ryan Anderson scored 27 and the Orlando Magic hit 17 three-pointers in a 102-89 victory over the visiting Miami Heat last night.

Anderson had five threes - all in the first half - and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Magic. Howard posted his 20th double-double of the season.

Orlando fell two shy of its season high for threes and set a team record with 42 attempts.

Dwyane Wade led the Heat with 33 points, but had only 11 after halftime. LeBron James added 17.

Before the game, Magic owner Richard Devos said he wants to keep the disgruntled Howard in Orlando.

Story continues below.

"I don't want to trade him," the 85-year-old Devos said of Howard, who is eligible to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Howard has publicly requested a trade from Orlando.

"We like to think we're making headway," Devos said of talks with Howard and his representatives. "But I don't know. He probably won't know until the end and I won't either."

In a related matter, NBA commissioner David Stern said he doesn't think Howard's uncertain future will overshadow the All-Star Game in Orlando in 3 weeks.

The commissioner spoke in Houston, where he officially announced that the All-Star Game would be held there in 2013.
