Rancocas Valley girls roll past Bordentown

The Rancocas Valley girls' basketball team, ranked No. 1 in South Jersey by The Inquirer, wasted no time putting away visiting Bordentown, 70-43, on Wednesday in a South Jersey Invitational opening-round game.

Natalya Lee (21 points), Brianna Logan (20), and Lauren Moses (13) took turns strafing the Scotties. The Red Devils ran out to a 17-2 lead and then ended any suspense with a 25-11 fourth-quarter run.

Alex McTamney and Kelly Yanucil combined for 24 points for Bordentown.

Rancocas Valley will face Delsea in Saturday's 6:45 p.m. quarterfinal at Kingsway.

Boys' Basketball

Junior center Jake Heminway hit for a career-high 30 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and blocked six shots to help host Cape May Tech edge GCIT, 54-49, in a nonleague game.

Kevin Smith made three shots from beyond the arc and scored 19 of his 24 points in the Cheetahs' futile second-half rally.

Brandon Rembert collected eight assists and six steals to go with his game-high 29 points, and Stacy Thomas posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds in powering host Pennsauken Tech past Camden Academy Charter, 71-50.

Riverside rode 18 points by Jordan Campbell and 15 by Bobby Hozier to a 56-51 see-saw win at LEAP Academy Charter.

The Rams owned the first and fourth quarters, outscoring the hosts, 38-20. But LEAP, with a game-high 21 points from Brendon Hamilton, had a 31-18 edge over the second and third periods.
