Women's College Basketball: St. Joseph's defeats the Explorers, 57-53

Ashley Prim scored 18 points and Samira Van Grinsven added 14 as St. Joseph's defeated La Salle, 57-53, in an Atlantic Ten women's basketbll game at Tom Gola Arena on Wednesday night.

Erin Shields (Archbishop Carroll) clinched the win with two free throws with less five seconds to play.

The Hawks (15-8, 5-4) have beaten the Explorers (11-13, 5-4) eight straight times. St. Joe's is now 2-1 in the Big Five and La Salle is 1-2. Michelle Baker added nine points for the Hawks, who broke a two-game losing streak.

Alexis Scott had a game-high 20 points for La Salle and Brittany Wilson had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Nadia Duncan added 11 points and eight rebounds

Temple 65, St. Louis 50 - B.J. Williams was 7 for 14 from the floor for 21 points to lead the Owls (15-8, 8-1 A-10) to the win in St. Louis, extending their winning streak to eight.

The Owls got 12 points from freshman Rateska Brown as well as a double-double (10 points, 13 rebounds) from Victoria Macaulay.

The Billikins (8-16, 2-7) got 17 points from Desirae Ball.

The Owls scored 22 points off Saint Louis turnovers - the Billikins committed 21 - while St. Louis got just five points off Temple's season-low nine turnovers.

St. Bonaventure 69, UMass 54 - Megan Van Tatenhove and Armelia Horton scored 17 points each and the No. 25 Bonnies (23-2, 10-0 Atlantic 10) tied a school record for wins in a season by beating the Minutemen (6-18, 1-8) in Amherst, Mass. Shakia Robinson (North Penn) had 19 points for UMass.

West Chester 66, Kutztown 53 - Alex Lennon (Shipley School) led all scorers with 21 points as the Golden Rams (16-5, 12-5 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) led wire-to-wire to beat the visiting Golden Bears (6-17, 4-13). Advia Campbell (Lenape) had 15 points for Kutztown.

West Chester remains just one game behind leader Bloomsburg in the PSAC East, after the Huskies defeated Shippensburg, 72-63.

Millersville 70, Cheyney 35 - Freshman Shelby Reimer came off the bench to score 22 points and lead the visiting Marauders (14-7, 11-6) past the Wolves (0-21, 0-17), who got eight points from Linda Henderson.
