Fri. Pa. girls' roundup: GA surges to another Inter-Ac crown

Germantown Academy pulled away in the fourth quarter on Friday afternoon and clinched its 14th straight Inter-Ac League basketball title with a 58-43 win at Episcopal Academy.

Fran Sweeney scored all nine of her points in the fourth quarter and Jaryn Garner scored eight. Kiernan McCloskey poured in a game-high 23 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

Also in the Inter-Ac, Megan McGurk dished out five assists and navigated host Notre Dame past Agnes Irwin, 54-19. McGurk scored seven of her game-high 15 points in the first quarter as the Irish took a 15-4 lead.

Friends Schools. Shipley rolled to its second straight league title and fourth in the last five years with a 58-22 win over Friends' Central. Martine Fortune led the way with 10 points, and Jordyn Turner had nine.

Public. Northeast surged in the first half and was able to hold on the rest of the way en route to dropping visiting AAAA foe Overbrook, 39-32, in the semifinals.

Briyah Hill and Lauren Willis combined for 20 points in the first half and the Vikings entered the break leading by five.

Also in AAAA, host Central remained undefeated in league play with a 65-28 stomping of Girls High. Shanique Mattis scored nine of her game-high 18 points in the second quarter.

In AAA, Chelsea Woods grabbed 11 rebounds, Sierra Wilkinson had 16, and Freire Charter rolled at Germantown, 63-33.

Kahleah Copper dropped in 24 points and brought down 16 rebounds as Prep Charter eased past visiting Mastery Charter, 73-15.

In AA, Shana Owens had seven steals and Yolanna Snypse grabbed seven rebounds to lead Engineering and Science past visiting High School of the Future, 67-37.

India Lucas dropped in a game-high 20 points as Imhotep rolled at Communications Tech, 75-22.

Catholic. Danielle Skedzielewski grabbed eight rebounds and Megan Wolf dropped in 14 points to lift host Archbishop Ryan over Archbishop Prendergast, 51-23. Melissa Rizzo added six assists.

Suburban One. Sajanna Bethea scored eight of her 16 points in the fourth quarter as Pennsbury topped host William Tennent, 44-41.

Senior Alex Wheatley and junior Alexis Hofstaedter both recorded double-doubles to lead host Council Rock South past Bensalem, 76-49. Wheatley grabbed 12 rebounds and scored 15 points, while Hofstaedter dished out 10 assists and scored 10 points.

Pioneer. Brittany Moore knocked down a pair of threes and Sarah Payonk grabbed eight rebounds as Spring-Ford eased past visiting Phoenixville, 69-31.

Nonleague. Demi Morganstein scored a career-high 17 points as Lower Moreland turned back host Bristol, 57-47. The sophomore added four assists and her sister, Allie, scored 16 of her game-high 24 points in the first half.

Senior Brianna Macauley grabbed 10 rebounds and junior Jordan Matthews dished out six assists to help host Academy Park top West Chester Henderson, 51-46.

G'Mrice Davis scored 11 of her team-high 18 points in the first half as Girard College rolled at Phil-Mont Christian, 51-39. Taschet Murphy chipped in with three threes.

Alanna Tucker dished out four assists and Nicki Heinsinger knocked down three three-pointers to lift Sacred Heart at Stuart Country Day, 44-22.
