Tennessee State stunned previously unbeaten No. 9 Murray State on Thursday night, 72-68, handing the Racers their first loss of the season, at home in Murray, Ky., no less.

Isaiah Canaan had 31 points and six rebounds for Murray State (23-1, 11-1 Ohio Valley Conference), which was the last unbeaten team in Division I. Murray State had won the last eight meetings against Tennessee State (16-10, 9-4) dating to 2008-09.

The Tigers led, 69-68, when a turnover gave Murray State the ball with 11.2 seconds to play. But Tennessee State stole the inbounds pass, and Robert Covington was fouled with 9.7 seconds left. Covington, however, missed both free throws.

Story continues below.

Canaan turned the ball over and committed a foul with 3.5 seconds to play. Kenny Moore made two free throws to make it a three-point lead.

Murray State again turned the ball over on a long inbounds pass, and Jordan Cyphers made one of two free throws to seal the upset.

The last team to go undefeated was Indiana in 1975-76. The Hoosiers had 32 wins and a national championship.

Wednesday

There have been some wild, crazy endings to North Carolina-Duke games over the 233-game history of the rivalry, and the one that happened at the Smith Center in Chapel Hill, N.C., Wednesday night will take its place as one of the wildest and most memorable of all - if not the most.

Tar Heels sophomore Harrison Barnes gave his team an 82-72 lead with 2 minutes, 38 seconds to play, and the game appeared over. Reporters on press row went back to the media room to write their stories, most of those in attendance waited for the minutes to melt away, and even the host Tar Heels, ranked fifth in the nation, appeared content to hold on and escape. But it wasn't over.

After a furious rally that placed the result in doubt, Duke's Austin Rivers made a long three-pointer from the right side as the final buzzer sounded.

The shot gave the No. 10 Blue Devils (20-4, 7-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) an improbable 85-84 victory over the Tar Heels (20-4, 7-2). And, as Duke's players spilled from their bench and onto the court, fans, North Carolina players, and staff, mostly everybody, stood in a stunned stupor.
