Sixers Notes: At first stop of road trip, Cavaliers' Irving will sit

The 76ers begin a three-game road trip on Saturday in Cleveland but will miss seeing one of the league's bright young players.

Cleveland point guard Kyrie Irving, the No. 1 overall selection in the NBA draft out of Duke, won't play on Saturday due to a concussion.

Cavaliers coach Byron Scott told reporters that Irving's next chance to play will be Wednesday against the visiting Indiana Pacers.

Saturday will be the third consecutive game Irving will miss. A graduate of St. Patrick's High in Elizabeth, N.J., Irving suffered the injury when he was kneed in the head during Tuesday's 107-91 loss at Miami.

Story continues below.

Irving is averaging 18.0 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.5 rebounds in 29.8 minutes. He is shooting 49.2 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from beyond the arc and has emerged as a leading candidate for rookie of the year.

The Sixers will visit Charlotte on Monday and Orlando on Wednesday during their road trip.

Hawes still out

Sixers center Spencer Hawes missed his second straight game and 12th in the last 14 with a left Achilles strain. Rookie Nikola Vucevic started in his place.

The Sixers are 12-2 with Hawes in the lineup.

Foye a starter

Former Villanova star Randy Foye started his second straight game for the Clippers and eighth overall, replacing Chauncey Billups, who suffered a season-ending torn left Achilles tendon in Monday's 107-102 overtime win in Orlando.

"My role is the same, it is just that I am getting more minutes," Foye said following Friday's shootaround. "I have to be aggressive, shoot the ball, and make plays, but the biggest thing is to play defense."

Future all-star?

Sixers forward Thaddeus Young shared the sentiments of all his teammates upon hearing that Andre Iguodala has been selected to his first NBA all-star team.

"I am happy and proud for him and it's a long time coming," Young said. "He has worked so hard to earn it and I think it is the first of many all-star appearances."

And Young hopes one day he joins Iguodala on the all-star squad.

"It's definitely a goal," Young said. "You have to set your goals high."
