Willingboro girls defeat Williamstown

Micahya Owens and Nola Henry pushed Willingboro to a big halftime advantage and the Chimeras posted a 59-42 victory over Williamstown in the quarterfinals of the South Jersey Invitational girls' basketball tournament on Sunday at Kingwsay.

Owens had 21 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and three blocked shots, and combined with Henry for 28 points in a 39-17 first half. Kara Cezar added 15 points, nine steals and three blocks.

Holy Cross will be the Chimeras' semifinal opponent after the Lancers bounced Gloucester Catholic, 51-32. Alliya Butts grabbed 4 steals and scored 18 points, including six in a key first-quarter.

In consolation action, West Deptford rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit with a pressing defense and Megan Kirschling's 12 points to jolt Timber Creek, 38-35. Danielle McKeown (11 points) sank three foul shots in the final 10 seconds to seal the win.

Tori Smick tossed in 20 points, and Dallas Baldwin notched 14 points and seven rebounds for Woodstown during a 57-37 win over Westampton Tech.

Shootout at the Shore. Seneca converted 18 of 26 foul shots en route to a 69-53 win over Piscataway in the showcase at Mainland.

The Golden Eagles' attack featured Brittany Snow's 24 points and seven rebounds, Molly Garthwaite's seven assists, and Taylor Watson's 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.

 

Boys' Basketball

Donte Vaughan was named the game MVP after tossing in a game-high 19 points and guiding Triton to a 53-48 win over Oakcrest in the Olympic-Cape Challenge at St. Augustine.

Also at St. Augustine, sophomore Rodney Williams piled up 30 points, five assists, and two steals for Cherry Hill West and claimed the MVP award in an 83-69 triumph over Bridgeton. Marquis Goodman backed Williams with 25 points, seven rebounds, six steals and five assists.

Balanced scoring by Conor Kelly (14), Kevin Wixted (12) and Kyle Kahriger (12) sent Cherokee past St. Joseph, 61-56.

Egg Harbor Township gave the Cape-Atlantic League a win by dumping Timber Creek, 71-61. Justin Williams scored 25 points, and Khari Harley added 20 points and seven boards for EHT, while the Chargers' Dominique Reid worked inside for 23 points and 16 rebounds.

 

Indoor Track and Field

Winslow Township, with a quartet of DeAnn Cross, Torie Robinson, Christine Oguledo and Stey'ce McNeil, placed third in the girls' 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3 minutes, 58.70 seconds at the prestigious Millrose Games on Saturday at the New York Armory.
