FDA flags N.J. dental company

The Food and Drug Administration said Monday a New Jersey company had been barred from making and selling a variety of dental products because of violations at its manufacturing facility in Newark. The FDA said a court order against Accurate Set required the company to halt operations until the agency verifies that its dental implants meet federal standards. FDA inspectors said they found numerous quality-control violations. The company also did not have systems for reviewing customer complaints or correcting defective products, FDA officials said. - AP

AmerisourceBergen CFO quits

Valley Forge-based AmerisourceBergen, one of the nation's biggest pharmaceutical wholesalers, said Monday that chief financial officer Michael D. DiCandilo had left the company to "pursue other interests," effective immediately. Tim G. Guttman, the company's vice president and corporate controller since 2002, will serve as acting CFO, the company said. In a statement, chief executive officer Steven H. Collis praised DiCandilo for his 21 years with the company but gave no specific reason for the change. DiCandilo could not be reached for comment. - David Sell

EPA investigates Marcellus drilling

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is investigating whether specific Marcellus Shale drilling and compressor station operations in Southwestern Pennsylvania have caused environmental damage that violates federal rules. The federal probe of air, water, and hazardous-materials impacts, which the EPA had not previously acknowledged, began in late September in Washington County when on-site testing was done and is the initial stage of possible enforcement action or actions. The agency would not say where testing had been done, pending the outcome of the probe. Washington County, south of Pittsburgh, is a hotbed of Marcellus Shale gas development. - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Consumer bureau seeks comment

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau seeks public comment on the draft of a monthly mortgage statement designed to make it easier for homeowners to understand their loans and avoid unnecessary costs and fees. The director of the bureau, Richard Cordray, said the statement would help make mortgage servicers accountable for fixing errors that arise.
