ANOTHER CITY police officer has been arrested, this one for allegedly assaulting his wife during a fight in Kingsessing last month, police said yesterday.

Dwayne Carter, 25, was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with his wife on Chester Avenue near 55th Street on Jan. 21.

He was off duty at the time.

The Internal Affairs Bureau and District Attorney's Office investigated, and Carter was arrested Friday. He faces charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and simple assault stemming from the altercation, police said.

Story continues below.

Commissioner Charles Ramsey suspended Carter for 30 days with intent to dismiss, police said.

Carter has been on the force for four years and had been assigned to North Philadelphia's 22nd District, headquartered at 17th Street and Montgomery Avenue.

He is one of at least 40 police officers who have been arrested since 2009, at least 10 of whom were charged with physically or sexually assaulting women.
