‘Jeopardy!’ win would pay Mets fan from Philly $100K

  • Central High grad Sarah Bart was in the finals of the "Jeopardy!" College Championship on Feb. 13 and 14, 2012. The show's host is Alex Trebek.

As Jeopardy! decides its new college champ today, many in the area will root for Sarah Bart, because she's a Central High grad who grew up in Mount Airy.

But others might not - because she's been a "devoted fan for my entire life" of the New York Mets. So she told host Alex Trebek on Monday's show, the start of the two-part finale.

Hopes to be the team's general manager someday, she said.

The 22-year-old senior history major at Baltimore's Goucher College will have to stage a comeback, though.

All because of Final Jeopardy.

As seen at 7 p.m. on 6ABC, Bart led by $3,400 after the first two rounds, but gave the wrong response to this clue:

Story continues below.

"In 2011 Elizabeth II marked the 400th anniversary of this, assembled by 47 translators in Oxford, London & Cambridge."

Monica Theu of the University of North Texas got it right (answer at end), and wound up with $18,000 to Bart's $9,800.

Also wrong was Zack Terrill of Vanderbilt, leaving him in third with $8,000.

The lead is big, but far from insurmountable, since contestants can bet every penny won on each each show during Final Jeopardy.

The contestant with the highest two-day total will win $100,000 and the right to compete in the Tournament of Champions. Runnerup gets $50,000. Third place is worth $25,000.

Forget any dollar amounts from earlier shows - they were just scores, not payouts.

The correct question for Monday's Final Jeopardy clue was: "What is the King James version of the Bible?"

Bart and Terrill guessed the Oxford English Dictionary.
