A police officer was injured in a car accident Tuesday night in North Philadelphia with another driver, who was suspected of being under the influence, police said.

The accident occurred in the 2100 block of Lehigh Avenue about 8:20 p.m., said Christine O'Brien, a police spokeswoman.

The 39th District officer was taken to Temple University Hospital suffering from pain in her head, neck, back, and one knee, O'Brien said.

The officer was heading west on Lehigh Avenue to respond to an alarm when a car traveling east on Lehigh Avenue tried to turn into a parking lot and hit the police car on the driver's side, O'Brien said.
