Woman shot in Kensington dies

A 25-year-old woman shot in the head in Kensington Sunday afternoon died Monday morning, police said yesterday. She was identified as Christina Figueroa. Investigators have not determined what motivated the shooting. Figueroa was shot once in the forehead about 4 p.m. Sunday. She died at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Temple University Hospital.

Police said they were looking for two men who were seen running through McPherson Square, at F Street and Indiana Avenue, then fleeing west on Indiana in a white coupe, possibly an Acura or Honda.

Robbery suspect surrenders

Police yesterday announced the arrest of a second suspect in several gunpoint robberies in North Philadelphia.

Timothy Ballard, 33, of Erie Avenue near 9th Street, surrendered last Wednesday.

The other suspect, Kevin Wilson, 27, of Franklin Street near Butler, surrendered on Dec. 5.

After receiving several anonymous tips, police identified the pair as suspects in the November robberies, including those of at least four Temple students near the main campus.

Both face charges of robbery and related offenses.

Cadet is charged

with sex assault

A male cadet at Valley Forge Military Academy has been charged with sexually assaulting a female cadet in a dorm room last week, according to police.

The alleged victim was in Younghusband Hall with two male cadets about 3 p.m. last Wednesday when one of the young men left to use a bathroom, police said.

While he was gone, the other cadet, Jerrell McEachin, 19, repeatedly suggested that he and the victim have sex, police said.

When the victim refused, McEachin forced her to perform oral sex, police said. McEachin has been charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and related offenses.

Girl, 9, in hospital after hit-and-run

Police are searching for a driver whose car hit a 9-year-old girl in the Parkside section of West Philadelphia and fled yesterday afternoon. Fire Department officials said the girl was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia about 5:30 p.m. with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. Descriptions of the driver or car were not immediately available.
