Camden man charged in 17-year drug ring

February 15, 2012

The alleged leader of a drug-trafficking ring in Camden has been arrested on conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine over 17 years in the city, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said.

Jeffrey Jones, a.k.a. "Jazzy," 35, of Camden, made his first appearance Wednesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen M. Williams in federal court in Camden. He was arrested Feb. 3 after recently completing a five-year sentence for conspiring to possess firearms as a felon in 2007.

The operation distributed crack cocaine between 1990 and 2007. In a related case, Larry Reddick, a.k.a. "Lac," 36, pleaded guilty this month to distributing crack cocaine with Jones; Hashim Johnson, a.k.a. "Hash," 31, of Camden; and Mack Jones a.k.a. "Bear," 39, of Camden, officials said.

Reddick, an armed enforcer for the group, admitted to fatally shooting Brian "Pepe" Parker in 2000 in Camden because the ring believed Parker had stolen drugs from a stash house. Reddick also is charged with using a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.    - Darran Simon
