The couple's dog also died.

According to State Police, Brian M. Jubb, 42, of Wilmington, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado southbound in the center line on I-495 about 7:15 p.m. when he ran off the road "for an unknown reason" at the ramp for Route 141 in Newport.

The pickup struck a tree, and rolled down an embankment to a marshy area, police said. Donna Jubb, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.

She died at 10:17 p.m. at Christiana Hospital Trauma Unit, police said. Her husband, who was wearing seat belt, was treated at the hospital for nonlife threatening injuries.

The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the cause of the crash. Police said alcohol is not being considered as a factor.
