Wed. S.J. boys' and girls' roundup: Gloucester Catholic swims past Donovan

Nick Marks won a pair of individual events, anchored a relay victory and helped Gloucester Catholic claim another relay gold as the second-seeded Rams edged No. 7 seed Monsignor Donovan, 90-80, in a State Non-Public B boys' swimming quarterfinal on Wednesday at GCIT.

Marks prevailed in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 55.24 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (52.99), and joined his teammates in taking first in the 200 medley relay (1:46.16) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:36.83).

The Rams' Devin McCall, who swam the second leg in the 200 medley relay, added wins in the 200 individual medley (2:01.17) and 500 freestyle (4:59.68).

South Jersey Public B. Individual winners Alex Dintino (100 butterfly) and Austin Weitz (100 breaststroke) teamed up to help Cherry Hill East take first in the 200 medley relay, sending the top-seeded Cougars past No. 2 seed Mainland, 91-79, in the sectional final.

 

Boys' Basketball

Matt Bosch capped his 30-point night by scoring 8 in overtime, and Andrew Kimball provided the go-ahead layup with 30 seconds left, lifting host Ocean City over Holy Spirit, 64-60, in the Cape-Atlantic League.

The Spartans were led by Paul Moore (29 points), who made the tying layup at the regulation buzzer.

Mike Greenman made five three-point baskets in scoring 16, and fourth-ranked St. Augustine extended its winning streak to eight by downing visiting Millville, 69-54.

Zach Betz shot 6 for 6 from the line while scoring 11 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter, helping host Lower Cape May hold off Mainland, 56-51.

 

Girls' Basketball

Cierra Ray led the way with 12 points, four steals and three assists, and host Burlington Township burst out to an 18-3 lead in rolling over Medford Tech, 51-25.
