"We haven't made that determination for sure yet," Thorn said. "But the odds are that he probably will [sit out until after the break]. He's not ready to play yet, and we certainly don't want him to go back out there until he is ready to play. I think the chances are that we won't play him until after All-Star."
In his 14 games this season, Hawes has averaged 10.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists, while shooting 61.1 percent from the floor. His play early in the season was a big reason the team jumped out to its surprising start. With rookies Lavoy Allen and Nikola Vucevic filling in for Hawes, they've still managed to stay in the lead in the Atlantic Division.
"[A second opinion] is probably what we'll do," Thorn said. "That's what you always do with a player. If he's not coming along as well as you'd like, and he's interested in maybe looking at a second opinion then you always do that.
"It's always a concern when a guy who was playing as well as he was playing is not able to play. He's played those two games [missing 15 of past 17 since playing Jan. 16]. As far as the team goes, we've made the adjustments that we could make. Hopefully, he'll be well sooner than later and he'll be ready to go again."
Meeks snuffed
Sixers guard Jodie Meeks expressed hope Tuesday that he would be invited to participate in the three-point shooting contest during All-Star weekend. Those hopes were dashed when the NBA announced its participants yesterday.
