Buoyed by a scintillating win in the 200-yard medley relay by 0.08 seconds, No. 2 seed Moorestown built an early lead and held on to topple top-seeded Haddonfield, 91-79, on Thursday in the South Jersey Public B boys' swimming championship at GCIT.
Will Van Fossen led off the winning medley relay effort - which nosed out the Bulldogs, 1 minute, 38.80 seconds to 1:38.88 - and went on to capture the 200 individual medley as well as anchor the winning 400 freestyle relay.
Tom Shetler added a pair of individual golds (50 and 100 freestyle) for the Quakers, who enjoyed a 16-point lead after the first four events. Devin Nielsen, who competed on both winning relays, led Moorestown to a sweep of the first four spots in the 100 breaststroke.
Will Manion (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke) and Ryan Richards (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle) were double winner for Haddonfield.
State Non-Public B. Mike Kell won the 200 individual medley (2:26.59) and the 500 freestyle (4:27.24), but No. 8 seed Camden Catholic had little else to cheer in a 109-61 quarterfinal loss at top-seeded Pingry.
The Renegades received scoring from 11 players, led by Tristan Thompson's 13 points.
Philly.com/Life Center Classic. Xavier Lundy dropped in 33 points to help sixth-ranked Paulsboro outlast Rancocas Valley, 64-58, in overtime at Life Center.
Billy Griffin (17 points) sparked a 21-4 second-quarter spree, Nick DePersia added 15 points, and Robby DePersia contributed 13 points and five assists in guiding Haddonfield over Westampton Tech, 79-50.
Burlington County. Willingboro completed a 12-0 sweep of Patriot Division competition with a title-clinching 78-59 victory at Medford Tech.
Ronny Paden made six three-point baskets in scoring 32, and Tyrell Maloney netted 20 for the second-ranked Chimeras.
Florence converted 12 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter, and D'Andre Davis picked up nine of his 16 points down the stretch to cement a 63-54 victory at Pemberton. Quintin Harris topped the Flashes' scoring with 18 points, while Malcolm Mason netted 19 for the host Hornets.
Colonial. Behind 26 points by Trey Thatcher, Haddon Township crushed host Collingswood, 61-37, for its first win over the Panthers since 2002.
Tri-County. Rashaan Arsmtead scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half, and Deandre Solomon (15 points) teamed with Tariq Furbush to make four free throws in the final :10 of Schalick's 73-70 home win over GCIT.
Dave Mikanda (17 points) did most of his damage after regulation ended, shooting 9 for 12 from the foul line to help Williamstown pull out a 53-50 double-overtime win at Pitman.
Nonleague. Daron Curry (23 points) made the tying layup with 6 seconds left in regulation, and made six free throws in overtime to make host Deptford a 65-61 winner over Bridgeton.
