Campbell results mixed

Campbell Soup Co.'s second-quarter net income fell 14 percent as it spent more on marketing and revenue edged lower. But the results released Friday beat expectations as its soup business improved. The Camden company's stock rose 1 percent in premarket trading. The company says net income for the three months ended Jan. 29 fell to $205 million, or 64 cents a share. That compares with $239 million, or 72 cents a share, last year. Analysts expected 62 cents per share, according to FactSet. - AP

Marcellus Shale production up

Production of Marcellus Shale natural gas in Pennsylvania rose again in the second half of 2011, slightly exceeding projections. The state reported Friday that drillers produced the equivalent of 1.66 billion cubic feet of gas per day from July to December. That's up from about 1.19 billion cubic feet per day in the previous six months. The output translates into a yearly average of about 1.42 billion cubic feet per day - up slightly from previous industry projections of 1.3 billion for 2011. - AP

Hire One touts jobs

Hire One, a public-private campaign initiated in Chester County last year to reduce unemployment by urging county employers to hire at least one unemployed person, has led to 1,600 hires, the campaign's project director, Stan Schuck, reported in a statement. Most of the 1,600 were county residents brought onto payrolls of county-based employers. - Jane M. Von Bergen
