Pa. Girls: Peal leads Abington past Rustin

Aiyannah Peal scored 11 of her game-high 23 points in the second half to help Abington turn away visiting West Chester Rustin, 50-46, on Friday in the opening round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

Deja Rawls chipped in with 12 points to aid the 13th-seed Ghosts. Adaja Franklin scored 15 to lead 20th-seeded Rustin.

Also in the first round, Kelsey Watson controlled the low post and host Methacton easily rolled past Ridley, 66-42. Watson grabbed 14 rebounds, swatted away four shots and dropped 18 points.

Alysha Lofton scored 10 of her team-high 12 points in the second half to help Central Bucks South rally past Great Valley, 42-39. The Titans trailed by eight points at halftime, before outscoring Great Valley, 14-4, in the fourth quarter.

Central Bucks West relied on the efforts of Jen Fabian as it romped past visiting Garnet Valley, 80-48. Fabian grabbed 10 rebounds to accompany her 10 points and was aided by freshman Nicole Munger's three three-pointers.

Ciara Andrews scored 16 of her game-high 23 points to lift Cheltenham over visiting Plymouth Whitemarsh, 55-39. Andrews added eight rebounds and seven steals to aid the win.

Jaclyn Gantz dropped in a team-high 15 points to help lift Haverford High over visiting Unionville, 51-35. The Fords opened the game up on a 15-7 run, balanced by the scoring contributions of four players.

Dee Terry hit a free throw with 11 seconds left to seal Boyertown's 31-27 win at Lower Merion. The Bears charged back from five points down to outscore Lower Merion, 13-4, in the final quarter. Kaitlyn Eisenhard scored six of her team-high 12 points in the fourth.

Public. Engineering & Science clinched its second straight Class AA title with a 57-42 win over Imhotep at Northeast. Senior center Yolanna Snypse grabbed 12 rebounds and dropped in 15 points to lead the Engineers. Sophomore point guard Monique Whaley-Briggs chipped in with seven assists and sophomore Aaliyah Worley hit three threes.

Kayla Henderson helped lift Central over Northeast, 48-31, in the AAAA title game at Lincoln. The sophomore scored six of her game-high 16 points in the second quarter.

Pa. Independent Schools. Behind unlikely scoring contributions, Hill School dropped Episcopal Academy, 54-51, in the tournament semifinal at Penn State-Brandywine.

Taylor Silar scored 14 points and Monica Patel had 10, to mark both of the senior guards' first double-digit scoring efforts of the season.

Sox Alexander's steady hand helped Shipley cruise past Germantown Academy, 54-41. The sophomore point guard recorded seven steals and added nine points. Kiernan McCloskey had 16 points to lead GA.

Hill and Shipley will meet Saturday at 5 for the championship.
