Women's College Basketball: Perfect Storm: UConn win streak sunk at 99

Shenneika Smith's three-pointer from the wing with 8 seconds left lifted St. John's to a 57-56 win over No. 2 Connecticut on Saturday night in Storrs, Conn., snapping the Huskies' 99-game home-court winning streak.

It was also the Huskies' first home loss to an unranked opponent in nearly 19 years.

Trailing by two with 16 seconds left, Nadirah McKenith drove the lane and kicked it out to Smith, who hit the trey to give the Red Storm (18-8, 10-3 Big East) the lead.

UConn (24-3, 11-2) had one final chance, but Bria Hartley's three-point attempt from the corner was short.

Rutgers 61, Villanova 52 - The Wildcats dug their own grave with horrible second-half shooting, and the Scarlet Knights (15-12, 5-9 Big East) buried them at the Pavilion. Villanova (15-12, 5-9) began the second half hitting just two of its first 10 shots.

Duquesne 82, La Salle 52 - In Pittsburg, the Dukes (19-8, 7-5 Atlantic Ten) used a 24-9 run to close out the first half and put the game out of reach for the Explorers (12-15, 6-6).

Penn 61, Columbia 41 - Alyssa Baron finished with 25 to lift the Quakers (10-13, 3-6 Ivy League) over the 2-29, 0-9 Lions in New York.

St. Joseph's 85, Charlotte 73 - With the A-10 victory over the 15-11, 7-5 49ers, the Hawks (18-8, 8-4) moved into sole possession of fourth place.

Elsewhere: Holy Family clinched the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division title by defeating Dominican, 77-62, in Orangeburg, N.Y. . . . A 61-48 win over host Swarthmore by Haverford moved the Fords (17-8, 12-8 Centennial Conference) into the postseason for the first time in program history. Wednesday, Haverford will take on 13-12, 12-8 Ursinus, which beat 20-5, 15-5 Muhlenburg, 61-56, in Collegeville.

Stockton (15-12) fell to Montclair, 76-67, in the New Jersey Athletic Association tournament. Montclair (19-7) will face Kean in the next round.
