Bruins end Blues' streak

Brad Marchand scored twice and Tim Thomas stopped 30 shots to lead the Boston Bruins to a 4-2 win at St. Louis on Wednesday, ending the Blues' team-record point streak at 21 home games.

Chris Stewart and Ryan Reaves scored for the Blues on the first five shots of the game, but Thomas stopped the next 27.

 

Karlsson sets mark

Erik Karlsson and Milan Michalek each earned three points and the Ottawa Senators defeated the visiting Washington Capitals, 5-2.

Karlsson finished with a goal and two assists to set a franchise record for assists by a defenseman in a season with 47.

 

Jackets trade Vermette

Instead of dealing coveted forward Rick Nash or high-priced former Flyer Jeff Carter, the Blue Jackets sent center Antoine Vermette to Phoenix for two draft picks and goaltender Curtis McElhinney.

 

New deal for Ruutu

Carolina agreed to a four-year, $19 million contract extension with forward Tuomo Ruutu. The deal will pay Ruutu $4 million next season and $5 million in each of the next three years.
