Davy Jones, former singer for the Monkees, has died in Florida, according to a medical examiner's office there.

The singer was 66, and is survived by his wife, Jessica, and four daughters. He died in Florida, but also lived recently in Pennsylvania, and was a Daily News Sexy Single several years ago.

The medical examiner's office for Martin County, Fla., confirmed it had been notified that Jones had died, but had no further details.

The Monkees, in reality a rock band formed for a TV show, had a string of hits in the 1960s. Jones sang lead on Daydream Believer, one of the group's biggest hits.

He was regularly on the cover of teen magazines during that span.

Jones had a farm in Beavertown, in Snyder County, central Pennsylvania, where he raised horses. He was once waiting for a flight at Philadelphia International Airport, when he spied a Daily News ad looking for nominees for the annual Sexy Singles contest.

On a whim, Jones decided to enter. But somewhere between his picture appearing in the paper and the party the paper has each year to celebrate the winners, Jones proposed to the former Jessica Pacheco, 31, a flamenco dancer and actress.

As for the experience of being a Daily News Sexy Single, Jones said "It was a bit of fun. I'm still glad about that."
