PLAXICO BURRESS, speaking yesterday on the "Brian Baldinger & Harry Mayes Show'' on 97.5 The Fanatic ESPN Radio, said he would like to sign with the Eagles and play with Michael Vick.

"Hey, man, nothing else would make me happier,'' said Burress, who is a free agent. He spent last season with the Jets after completing his prison sentence, catching 45 passes and eight touchdowns.

Burress, speaking of his friendship with Vick, said, "I really believe he can bring a championship to Philadelphia, and I'd love to be part of that.''

The NFL said it will open the season Wednesday, Sept. 5, to avoid a conflict with President Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention the following night.

The season usually begins on a Thursday night, but commissioner Roger Goodell announced the change for this season.

The Super Bowl champion New York Giants will host the season opener at MetLife Stadium against a team to be announced at a later date. Starting time is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

* Linebacker Ahmad Brooks, 28, signed a 6-year, $44.5 million contract extension with San Francisco that will keep one of the NFL's best linebacker units intact. The deal is worth $17.5 million guaranteed, said his agent, Greg Williams.

The 49ers selected Brooks after he was waived by Cincinnati in 2008.

* Michael Myers, a former Dallas defensive lineman, has sued the NFL, alleging concussions have affected his short-term memory and caused migraine headaches and other health problems.
