End of the 'hiring winter'

Posted: March 18, 2012

Who's hiring? And what are an applicant's chances? Job questions are paramount to the many who remain unemployed, underemployed, or unhappy in an existing job. But things are looking up for many firms. We asked companies about their prospects for hiring this year. Here is some of what they said:

Toll Bros. Inc.

After a six-year "hiring winter," we are finally seeing the daffodils coming up. We are beginning to hire again, slowly and on a "just in time" basis, and we expect a slow but steady increase to our hiring this year.

Edmund Optics

With our increasing sales, we are continuously growing and adding people to our global team. We have aggressive goals for 2012, which would create additional positions and increase our hiring prospects to achieve success.

Martin Banks

Our prospects for hiring in 2012 are much better than in 2011. At the beginning of the year we promoted our associate attorney Amit Shah to a litigating attorney in the firm. With the promotion of an attorney comes the hiring of a team for him as his caseload grows.

Cherry Hill Volvo

In 2012 our intention is to increase our employee count. We anticipate a fabulous year.

SugarHouse Casino

In 2012, we plan to break ground on our pending expansion. With the expansion, we anticipate adding 500 permanent full- and part-time jobs, bringing the total casino workforce to approximately 1,500 team members. In addition, more than 700 construction jobs will be created over the approximately 24-month period. And we typically have a variety of openings at any time, for which people can easily apply online.

Brownstein Group

We're bullish this year. We plan to hire another 10 to 12 people - a significant number when you consider that we are about 145 people. Hiring prospects are certainly improved over the last couple of years and what's great about our growth is that it's diverse.

Fesnak

In 2010 we grew about 9 percent, last year we grew 12 percent, and this year we expect to grow about 15 percent, so the short answer is, yes, our hiring prospects are better than in recent years.

Mastery Charter Schools

Mastery is growing again. We are currently seeking school and central organization leadership staff as well as teachers K-12. We intend to hire at least 150 to 200 new employees for the year beginning July 1, and our recruiting season began in January, so interested candidates should apply online as soon as possible. Prospects are similar to last year and we intend to keep up this growth pace for at least the next five years.

ATI Physical Therapy

ATI Physical Therapy, formerly known as PRO Physical Therapy, just completed a record year for new clinic openings and hiring, and we plan to keep the momentum going. The East Coast division of ATI opened six new clinics in 2011 and we plan to continue the same rate of strategic growth in 2012.

Beyond.com Inc.

In 2011 we grew our staff by 25 percent and this year we plan to grow our staff by 15 percent. The economy is picking up and it's picking up steadily, unlike a bounceback, which is unstable. This steady pickup will lead to long-term stability.

Maris Grove

Through the next year we expect to continue to hire both full- and part-time employees across a variety of occupational fields to support the entire Maris Grove community.

Energy Plus

As one of the fastest-growing energy supply companies, Energy Plus added an additional 66 employees in 2011, growing our workforce by over 60 percent, and has plans to continue our rapid growth throughout 2012.

Vanguard Group

For 2012, we anticipate hiring numbers similar to what we had in 2011, which were 20 percent above 2010.

Currently we have approximately 300 open positions in Pennsylvania (including 70 openings in our specialty programs and internships for recent college graduates).

Penn Liberty Bank

Penn Liberty Bank is looking to add eight positions this year. We currently have a temporary branch in the Exton/Downingtown area but will be opening our permanent location around August. Several back-office positions have been added as well. Not included in this number are our seasonal hires. Penn Liberty Bank hires four to five seasonal employees during the summer months.

TruePosition

We definitely see an improved environment for hiring now than in recent years.
