Eastern's Nowak wins hoops honor

Eastern's Meghan Nowak was named the national Division III women's basketball rookie of the year by D3Hoops.com on Monday.

The freshman from Gateway High in Gloucester County was 15th in the nation in points per game and her 20.4 average led the Freedom Conference. She also grabbed 9.3 rebounds a game, second in the league.

La Salle's Pat Christensen was named the Atlantic Ten and Big Five pitcher of the week on Monday. The righthander won two games and saved another, giving up only one earned run in six innings.

Temple's Sarah Prezioso was named the Atlantic Ten softball player of the week, after the shortstop batted .467 (7 for 15) with two home runs, a triple and eight RBIs in four games.

St. Joe's Stefan Kancylarz was named the A-10 rookie of the week after hitting .421 (8 for 19) with four RBIs and starting games at both shortstop and third base.

Lehigh's Carli Sukonik (Harriton) earned the Patriot League's rookie of the week honor after the freshman scored eight goals in a 17-10 win over Binghamton.

Ursinus swept both men's lacrosse awards from the Centennial Conference, as senior attack Dave Kraus was the offensive player of the week, while junior goalkeeper T.J. Magnani (St. Mark's) was the defensive player of the week.

Rutgers' freshman Anthony Soyer (Absegami) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference rookie pitcher of the week.

The U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's latest Division I women's poll has Villanova ranked No. 14. Chestnut Hill is ranked No. 8 in Division II. Cabrini was voted No. 13 in Division III.
