Rowan pair earn honors in swimming

Rowan's Christie Raleigh and Max Tyburski earned all-American honors in the 50 freestyle at the NCAA Division III swimming and diving championships Wednesday night in Indianapolis.

Raleigh was second with a time of 23.09 seconds, breaking her own school record of 23.55.

Tyburski finished seventh in 20.49. In the preliminaries, he broke the school mark with a time of 20.37. (The record, 20.51, was previously held by Eric Dinsmore).

Freshman Supriya Davis of Swarthmore set a school-record time of 5:04.94 in the 500 freestyle preliminaries on Wednesday afternoon. She finished 26th overall.

National champs. Penn State senior Frank Molinaro finished the season 33-0 and won the 149-pound title in the NCAA national championships last weekend.

The Nittany Lions won the title for the second straight season - the first team from east of the Mississippi ever to win consecutive titles since the event began in 1929.

Molinaro, a three-time NJSIAA champion at Southern Regional, finished his career 121-29 and is tied for eighth in Penn State history in career victories.

Honors. Philadelphia University senior Christine Wooding (Mainland) was selected to the Daktronics women's basketball Division II all-American second team. The center was the CACC player of the year.

Chestnut Hill's Mike Humes, a freshman from Lenape High, was named the Central Atlantic Conference rookie of the week in men's tennis.

Noteworthy. Matt Elko's two-run double keyed a four-run sixth as Temple beat La Salle, 6-3, in an Atlantic Ten baseball game at Hank DeVincent Field.
