Dozens protest Pa. ultrasound bill

Posted: March 27, 2012

HARRISBURG - Dozens of sign-waving protesters took to the Capitol on Monday to protest a bill that would require ultrasounds for women seeking an abortion, and one candidate for attorney general said that he wouldn't enforce it if it becomes law.

Democratic attorney-general candidate Patrick Murphy told protesters that he didn't think such a law would be constitutional.

The bill has been sidelined at least temporarily because of what House Republican leaders said are questions raised by the medical community.

The bill also would require medical personnel to position a viewing screen so that the patient would be able to observe the ultrasound.
