South Jersey Girls' Lacrosse Players to Watch

Posted: March 28, 2012

Attack: Michelle Gonzales, Cherokee, Sr. With the graduation of Melissa Arthur, the onus of scoring goals for Cherokee falls largely on Gonzales. The Monmouth recruit has proved to be a capable scorer and is poised to continue improving this season.

Midfield: Stephanie Toy, Moorestown, Sr. Toy, a Notre Dame recruit, is one of the most dangerous players in the country, fresh off a 72-goal, 53-assist junior season. It will be tough, if not impossible, to contain Toy this season.

Midfield: Maddie Kiep, Haddonfield, Sr. Kiep recorded 45 draw controls to go with 34 goals, 24 assists, and 36 groundballs last season. She is bound for Cornell.

Midfield: Nicole Troost, Shawnee, Sr. As an attack last season, Troost netted 46 goals. The UMass recruit moves to midfield this season with 146 career goals.

Midfield: Haleigh Dalmass, Moorestown, Sr. Dalmass recorded 40 goals, 22 assists, and 36 groundballs as a junior. This USC recruit is a key piece to a dangerous Moorestown midfield.

Midfield: Emmy Duffey, Lenape, Sr. After missing most of last season with an injury, Duffey came alive in the postseason, scoring 10 goals in four postseason games. Watch for this Drexel recruit to take her place again among the area's top players.

Defender: Marissa Randazzo, Moorestown, Sr. Randazzo leads the always-tough Moorestown defense. The Fairfield recruit shined against one of the state's toughest schedules last year and should remain one of the state's top defenders.

Defender: Alexis Martin, Shawnee, Sr. The Renegades will be relatively inexperienced in goal this year after the graduation of second-team All-South Jersey selection Alex Zaugra. That makes Martin even more important to her team. The Catholic University recruit should continue to establish herself as a top defender.

Goalie: Amanda Currell, Moorestown, Sr. An understudy of sorts, Currell spent the first three years of her high school career backing up phenom goalie Bridget Bianco. But that didn't stop Currell from earning a Division I scholarship, to Rutgers. She might be one of the area's best-kept secrets over the last three seasons, but that should change this year.
