Fri. Pa. boys' roundup: Radnor rallies past Penn Charter

Radnor scored four times in the bottom of the seventh to topple unbeaten Penn Charter, 9-8, on Friday afternoon in a nonleague baseball game.

Billy Greenfield knocked in the second run of the inning for the hosts and then scored the game-winner on a wild pitch during an attempted suicide squeeze. He finished with three hits and three runs scored.

Ellis Schaeffer picked up the win in his first varsity appearance, as the junior pitched 2/3 of an inning. Penn Charter dropped to 8-1 overall and the Red Raiders improved to 2-1.

Also in nonleague action, Zach Schwartz slammed a homer in the sixth inning to provide an insurance run as Bensalem topped host New Hope-Solebury, 3-1.

Kelvin Sabastro struck out seven batters in seven innings and Alejandro Mejia knocked in two runs as Mariana Bracetti turned away visiting Philadelphia Academy Charter, 9-5.

Devon McCann drove home a pair of runs to help Cardinal O'Hara ease past host Springfield (Delco), 10-4. Steve Trainor added two hits, a run scored and an RBI.

Nicky Nardini knocked an RBI double to help Neumann-Goretti come back and top host Frankford, 10-6. The Pioneers took a 6-1 lead after three innings before the visitors scored nine times after the fifth inning.

Frankford is the defending Public League champ and Neumann-Goretti is the defending Catholic League champion.

Ches-Mont. Chas McCormick fanned 10 in six innings and allowed one walk to help West Chester Henderson shut out visiting Bishop Shanahan, 3-0. The junior lefty also had an RBI double in the third inning and recorded a triple as he went 3 for 3.

Nick Evangelista knocked in Tom Schwartz with a two-out single in the top of the seventh to give Great Valley an 8-6 win at Octorara. Colin Gallagher went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Octorara.

Pioneer. Jack Ashburn, the grandson of Phillies Hall of Fame outfielder Richie Ashburn, upstaged his uncle, Richie Ashburn Jr., as Phoenixville downed host Pottsgrove, 4-1.

Jack Ashburn is a senior catcher for Phoenixville and the son of John Ashburn. Richie Ashburn Jr. is the head coach of Pottsgrove.

Disney Spring Training. Pat Valentine pitched a shutout, fanned six and walked just one as Haverford School rocked Wausau West (Wisc.), 7-0, in Orlando.

Steve Fitzgerald drove in three runs on a pair of hits to lead the Fords' offense.

The Fords also downed West Geauga (Oh.), 6-2. Steve Scornajenghi went 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs.

Lacrosse

Ben Winebrake, Leighton Young and Michael Rama each assisted two goals to lead Upper Dublin over Suburban One foe Upper Merion, 13-7. Winebrake and Young also scored three times, while Rama had two goals.

Also in the Suburban One, three three-goal scorers and Harrison Holak's 16 saves helped Central Bucks East down visiting Hatboro-Horsham, 9-7. Matt Milici, Matt Heim and Zac Kane each had a hat trick.

Public. Angelo Chaney recorded nine saves to help FitzSimons down Southern, 6-1. Anthony Lloyd led the Rams' offense with a pair of goals.

Nonleague. Reid Weber scored three times and Drew Gill scored twice as Germantown Academy downed visiting Downingtown East, 7-5. Greg Shildkraut added two assists.

T.J. Romano scored three times and assisted on two more as Holy Ghost Prep downed host Archbishop Ryan, 9-7. Greg Price turned away nine shots to secure the win.
