Eagles' Asante Samuel's future still uncertain

Posted: March 30, 2012

Rumors continue to circulate about Asante Samuel's future destination, but there was no concrete movement on the Eagles cornerback's fate Thursday.

The day began with a report that Samuel, 31, and due a $9.5 million base salary this coming season, could soon be headed to the Tennessee Titans, but the Nashville newspaper, the Tennessean, reiterated its previous reporting that such a move is unlikely to happen soon. One reporter there wrote on Twitter that the Titans' interest is "lukewarm." They won't pay a big price for Samuel, according to the paper.

Another report, this one from the NFL Network, said the Titans are interested but that nothing is imminent. The report also ruled out the Lions as a potential bidder, even though Detroit has a need in its secondary.

Samuel might have had the best season of any Eagles corner in 2011, but his style does not mesh with the man-to-man coverage that best suits Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. He's likely the odd man out in a crowded secondary, if the Eagles can find someone willing to pay a price to their liking. The Eagles shopped Samuel last offseason but a potential deal fell apart.

In four seasons in Philadelphia, Samuel has made 23 interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.
