A 42-year-old Deptford woman was sentenced to five years in prison today in the hit-and-run death of a bicyclist on the Delsea Drive on Sept. 14, 2010.
Mary J. Dalton must serve 85 percent of the term - 4 years, 3 months - before becoming eligible for parole.
Dalton pleaded guilty Feb. 6 to vehicular homicide in the death of Thomas McCoy, of Woodbury, and admitted she was drunk at the time.
Officials said her blood-alcohol level was .235, almost three times the legal limit of .08.
After hitting McCoy from behind on the shoulder of the roadway, she drove her pickup truck for a mile before the vehicle became disabled and police arrested her.
Dalton apologized to the victim's family before Superior Court Judge Walter L. Marshall Jr. imposed sentence.
"This is a pain I have to live with every day, but it doesn't compare to the pain I caused them," she said, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutors Office.
Dalton is not related to County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton, whose office prosecuted the case.
