Thurs. Pa. girls' roundup: Great Valley outscores Radnor

Emily Scullin tossed in five goals and assisted on two others as Great Valley's early-season nonleague lacrosse showdown with Radnor turned into an offensive battle that the host Patriots won, 21-16, on Thursday.

Great Valley, ranked No. 2 in the state by phillylacrosse.com, built a three-goal halftime lead behind Scullin, Ali Karwoski (four goals), Brooke Gamble (three), and Kim Hooven (three).

Fourth-rated Radnor received five goals from Taryn Deck, and four goals and three assists by Libby Lowry.

In other nonleague action, Episcopal Academy outlasted host Downingtown East, 15-12, behind three goals each by Madison Craft and Taryn Gallagher, plus Kristen Hinckley's two goals and two assists.

Annie Morrissey scored her fourth goal of the game unassisted with 4 minutes, 36 seconds left to give Germantown Friends the winning margin in a 9-8 victory over visiting Springside.

Germantown Academy's Caroline Haynie scored with 26 seconds left to tie the game, but visiting Peddie School scored 10 seconds later to escape with a 13-12 win.

Notre Dame goalie Tori Sudjian stopped three shots and Nora McCallion netted five goals in the Irish's 21-7 win at Villa Maria.

Friends' Central doubled up visiting Baldwin, 16-8, as sophomore Emma Dahle scored six of her nine goals before halftime, and Becca Dahle provided five assists.

Halley Barnes' six-goal effort fueled Garnet Valley's 20-5 triumph over visiting West Chester East.

Softball

Sophomore Katie Wenger homered for the second straight day and also pitched a three-hit shutout, steering Agnes Irwin past host Friends' Central, 11-0, in a nonleague game. Wenger struck out 12 and hit a three-run homer.

Taylor Hendrickson launched a grand slam in the fifth inning, and Erin Dempsey had three hits and three RBIs as Hill School knocked off visiting Germantown Academy, 11-9.

Jess D'Agostino's bases-loaded double was the big hit in Central Bucks West's nine-run sixth inning, ending a 15-5 win at Palisades. D'Agostino had four RBIs, and Cassie Zanolini was 3 for 4 with a double and five runs scored.

Morrisville's 25-0 win at Academy of the New Church was a three-inning one-hitter by Amber Sesar, supported by Maggie Colon's three hits, four runs and six RBIs.

Catholic Academies. Taylor Lichtenhahn hit a three-run double and also pitched a two-hit shutout as unbeaten Nazareth Academy (5-0) blanked host Mount St. Joseph, 11-0. Melanie Kalesse added four hits and three RBIs.
