Man, 90, assaulted

in home invasion

* Levick Street near Revere

A robber forced his way into a 90-year-old man's house in Mayfair and assaulted him before stealing his wallet and running off Thursday morning, police said.

The home-invasion robbery unfolded about 11:35 a.m. - around the corner from the 15th Police District building on Harbison Avenue near Levick Street.

The robber used a box to assault the elderly man, police said. He snatched the victim's brown wallet, which contained about $200 in cash, and fled in an unknown direction, said Officer Tanya Little, a Police Department spokeswoman.

Medics took the man to Nazareth Hospital. He suffered a cut to his lip and was treated and released.

The man's neighbors said he was spending time with his daughter Thursday afternoon and will celebrate his 91st birthday Friday.

Neighbor George Ochlak was disgusted that anyone would rob the man in broad daylight inside a house he's owned for 62 years.

"You're not safe anywhere anymore," Ochlak said, "no matter where the hell you go."

The robber is described as a Hispanic man between 20 and 30 years old, about 5 feet 10 and about 190 pounds. He was wearing a gray jacket and dark pants.

Cops release video of brick beating

* Locust Street near 13th

A $10,000 reward has been posted for information leading to the arrest of the man who attacked Asrat Mamo, a Center City parking-lot attendant, with a brick Wednesday night.

Police said the attacker struck up a conversation with Mamo at an E-Z Park lot about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday before he beat the attendant unconscious with a brick. The attacker and a woman then rifled through Mamo's pockets, investigators said, but left cash and his cellphone.

Despite the theft, police said they do not believe that robbery motivated the attack, and said Mamo may have known at least one of the assailants.

In surveillance video, the attacker and two women can be seen leaving the lot while Mamo lies on the ground near the booth.

He was in serious condition Thursday at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Mamo's attacker is described as a black man in his 30s with shoulder-length dreadlocks who wore a black jacket and blue jeans. One woman who was with him wore a pink sweat suit and was carrying a yellow bag and a backpack, and the other woman wore olive-green pants and a dark jacket, police said.
