The Black History and Culture Showcase. The showcase will be presented from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Convention Center, 12th and Arch Streets. It was started in 2004 by Everett Staten as a way to promote a greater awareness and appreciation of African American history. New this year is the recognition of artistic talent in fine arts, literature, theater, music, and film. The weekend centers on "Real People, Real Artifacts, and Real Stories." Jerry Blavat's 10th Anniversary Reunion with the Swinging Sounds of Doo Wop. Blavat returns to Verizon Hall at 8 p.m. Saturday to host a doo wop reunion as part of the Kimmel Center's season-long anniversary celebration. The evening offers a program from the '50s, '60s, and '70s, with scheduled performers including the Duprees, the Chiffons, the Dubs, the Passions, the Chimes, the Demensions and the Capris. Blavat was one of the radio greats honored by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in April 1998.
