Thurs. Pa. boys' roundup: Haverford takes down La Salle

Haverford School posted its sixth straight win, as the visiting Fords topped La Salle, 11-6, Thursday in a nonleague matchup of two of the area's top lacrosse teams.

Zach Rego highlighted Haverford's balanced attack with three goals and two assists. Gavin McBride added three goals, and Henry Blynn scored twice with two assists.

Jake Landman played a strong game in net, as he turned away 10 shots to seal the win.

The Fords defense limited Matt Rambo, La Salle's top attackman, to one goal. Adam Stefanowicz scored three times for the Explorers.

Haverford School is ranked No. 2 in the state by and No. 5 in the nation by ESPN. La Salle is No. 3 in the state and No. 19 in the nation.

Central. Conestoga, the top team in the nation and the state, knocked off host Springfield (Delco), 12-8. Senior attack Brad Lord recorded six assists and scored a goal to lead the Pioneers.

Jared Jacobs helped Conestoga control possession, as he won 15 of his 19 face-offs. Robbie Zonino secured the win with eight saves.

Inter-Ac. Morgan Westby scored twice and added an assist to help Episcopal Academy ease past host Malvern Prep, 9-4. John Garino scored two goals and won nine of his 15 face-offs.

Ches-Mont. Matt Worral and Kevin McQuiston each had a pair of assists as Kennett knocked off visiting West Chester Rustin, 10-6. McQuiston scored twice and Zach Longacre recorded six saves for the win.


North Penn scored four times in the bottom of the sixth and topped visiting Central Bucks West, 6-5, in a Suburban One League game. Matt Davey tied the score with a bases-loaded double and scored the go-ahead run on a double by Bryce Mengel.

Cody Capaldi's two RBIs and Jake Ebersole's three-run homer lifted Souderton past host Hatboro-Horsham, 9-6.

Bret DeStefano struck out six in six innings as Council Rock North topped host Neshaminy, 5-2.

Central. Matt Davis stroked a pair of RBI doubles as Ridley edged host Haverford High, 3-2. Chris Pokorny went 3 for 4 and hit a homer for the Fords.

Bicentennial. Tony Burgess hit a game-winning single in the eighth inning to lift Calvary Christian over visiting Delco Christian, 7-6. Tyler Scheuer went 2 for 3 and had three RBIs for the hosts.

Eric Wilcox struck out eight and walked three as host Morrisville downed Bristol, 5-2.

Joe Leventhal knocked in three runs and Jordan Pocrass scored twice as Lower Moreland rocked visiting New Hope-Solebury, 13-3.

Andrew DiValentino fanned 12 in six innings and knocked in two runs to lead host Jenkintown over Plumstead Christian, 6-0. Pat Stillmun went 2 for 3.

Ben Jonik went 3 for 4 and scored two runs as Devon Prep edged Holy Ghost Prep, 6-5. John Laprise stole home in the fourth inning to put the Tide ahead 6-2.

Friends Schools. Jake Phillips went 2 for 3 with three RBIs as Friends Select eased past visiting Westtown, 11-1. Dan Mauria added two hits and a pair of RBIs. Benn Holl fanned 11 for the win.

Del-Val. Glen Mills rallied to score seven runs in the last three innings to top Interboro, 13-12. Shaheen Dow recorded three hits, and Justin Easter drove in three runs.

Public. Jahlil Gregg knocked in four runs and Manny Fernandez drove in three as host Boys' Latin downed Southern, 19-13. Marcus Deleon went 4 for 4 and had six RBIs for Southern.

Will Weeks topped host Freire Charter's three-run sixth inning as he scored on a single by A. J. Stewart, and the Dragons held on to edge Bartram, 9-8. Stewart pitched seven innings and struck out nine for the win.

Junior centerfielder Manny Young slammed a three-run homer in the second inning and Ben Franklin downed visiting Mariana Bracetti, 7-5. Pontell Wright scored two runs, and Khalil Coles posted the win with 12 strikeouts.

Nonleague. Senior righthander Joe Ravert struck out nine as Malvern Prep rolled over Poland (Ohio), 10-1, in Cocoa Beach, Fla. Ravert also had two hits and an RBI.
