Sophomore righthander Lou Trivino (Upper Bucks Christian, 7-2 record) pitched a two-hit, 1-0 shutout while striking out seven as Slippery Rock beat No. 23 Mercyhurst in the first game of PSAC doubleheader in Erie. The Rock (20-19, 8-8) won the second game, 5-3, in eight innings. Mercyhurst is 28-11 and 10-6.
MEN'S LACROSSE: Massachusetts, ranked No. 2 in the nation in NCAA Division I, earned the first 11-0 start in program history with an 8-6 win over Drexel in Bethpage, N.Y.
The Dragons (5-7, 3-2 Colonial Athletic Association) had the Minutemen (11-0, 4-0) locked in a 4-4 tie with less than seven minutes to play when Colin Fleming bounced in a goal for a 5-4 lead which UMass never lost.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE:Rachel Porter (Shawnee) broke the Widener record with six assists and added five goals and Julia Costello (Cardinal O'Hara) scored six goals as the Pride (6-5, 2-1 Commonwealth Conference) routed Lycoming, 22-11, in Williamsport, Pa. Porter broke the old record of five assists in a game, accomplished eight times, most recently by Costello on April 29, 2010.
Slippery Rock (8-4, 4-4 PSAC) beat host Kutztown (4-9, 1-7), 12-6, despite a pair of goals from Leeann Pica (Neshaminy).
NOTEWORTHY: Sophomore guard D.J. Newbill (Strawberry Mansion) was named the Dave Phillips Memorial Unsung Hero award winner at Penn State's basketball banquet on Friday night.
