Temple women roll over La Salle

Posted: April 21, 2012

Ahead of next weekend's Atlantic Ten tournament, the Temple's women's lacrosse team rolled to a 19-11 win Friday against St. Joseph's at Geasey Field.

The Owls' Jaymie Tabor led all players with four goals, and Karly Cohen and Stephanie Markunas notched hat tricks for Temple (9-7, 3-3).

The Hawks (5-10, 1-5) struck first in the game, but it wasn't long before the Owls took control. Markunas had scored twice by the midway point of the first half as Temple took a 4-2 lead, and the Hawks never came within seven goals the rest of the way.

La Salle fell, 20-7, to host Massachusetts on Friday. With the win, the Minutemen (15-1, 6-0) clinch the A-10 regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the A-10 championship. Senior Nora McGurkin led La Salle (9-6, 2-4) with two goals and two assists.

Temple tennis advances

Paola Calderon scored two points for the Temple women's tennis team in Friday's quarterfinal match of the Atlantic Ten championship tournament in Charlottesville, Va., to help the Owls to a 4-0 win over Xavier. Temple will play top-seeded Massachusetts in a Saturday semifinal.
