Texas A&M's Gibbs headed to Seton Hall, not Temple

Was Temple ever a possible destination for 6-foot-1 point guard Sterling Gibbs of Texas?

Gibbs, who left Texas after the spring semester, has transferred to Seton Hall. The Newark Star-Ledger and Zagsblog.com reported that Gibbs, a rising sophomore, had considered playing for the Owls. The Star-Ledger even wrote that Gibbs was "being wooed by Temple."

Someone close to Temple's program denied those reports Friday.

"That's way off," the source said. Temple "never offered nor discussed signing Gibbs."

At this point, it doesn't matter.

Gibbs picked Seton Hall after spending Thursday with Pirates coaches and players at the school's South Orange, N.J., campus.

Gibbs averaged just eight minutes and 2.6 points as a backup to standout Myck Kabongo this past season at Texas. Both players were freshmen. The Scotch Plains, N.J. native, who played high school ball at Seton Hall Prep, had expressed a desire to play closer to home during this past season.

Gibbs will try to get a hardship waiver, which would allow him to play immediately rather than having to sit out a year as per NCAA transfer rules.
