"We're thrilled to be working with a partner that is 100 percent committed and excited about the Philadelphia Flyers," Comcast-Spectacor president Peter Luukko said in a statement. "We're also happy that the Sixers have moved over to [parent company] Greater Media Radio, along with us. Greater Media Radio is an incredible partner which offers us numerous promotional support for the Flyers on all their stations."
No firm reason was given for the move, but often during this time of year teams are bounced around the dial as playoff schedules create conflicts. Complicating things further was that WIP began broadcasting Phillies games on its FM signal (94.1) began broadcasting Phillies games this season, along with WPHT (1210-AM).
As Greater Media said last week with the Sixers, it is looking to develop a network of affiliates for Flyers broadcasts.
Tim Saunders will handle the play-by-play and Chris Therien will handle color analysis.
In announcing his team's move, Sixers CEO Adama Aron said in a release last week: "The Sixers rapidly growing fan base will no longer have to set their radios to 'scan' to find where their Sixers will be aired."
