NFL: Ravens' Harbaugh backtracks on comment about Patriots

Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh made a critical remark about the New England Patriots in a radio interview on Tuesday, but later backtracked.

Harbaugh told a Baltimore station that New England's championships "got asterisks now; it's been stained" while referring to the Spygate scandal of 2007.

The Ravens later released a a statement from Harbaugh in which he said his "reference was to the perception out there that came as the result of the league's actions." He said that he could have been clearer and that "I totally believe that the Patriot and Saint coaches and players earned those championships. Bill [Belichick] and Sean [Payton] both know that."

Bills look at Young

When Buffalo failed to land a quarterback in the draft last weekend, general manager Buddy Nix hinted he already had one in mind in free agency.

According to the team's website, the Bills will work out former Eagles backup Vince Young on Wednesday.

It will be Young's first formal workout with a team this offseason. He was not re-signed by the Eagles after completing a one-year deal.

The Bills have a starter in place in Ryan Fitzpatrick, but Young's versatility as both a runner and passer could be ideal fits in coach Chan Gailey's offense, and particularly in wildcat formations.

Former players sacked

An FBI undercover operation, designed to block an alleged identity-theft and tax-refund scheme, netted a pair of former NFL players, William Joseph and Michael Bennett, in Miami.

Joseph is a former Miami defensive tackle who was drafted in the first round by the New York Giants in 2003.

Bennett is a former Wisconsin running back who also was drafted in the first round, by the Minnesota Vikings, in 2001.

Savage to Senior Bowl

According to several reports, Phil Savage, a player personnel executive for the Eagles, will be named executive director of the Senior Bowl. Senior Bowl officials have called a news conference for Wednesday, when the official announcement is expected.

Noteworthy

Oakland signed quarterback Matt Leinart to a one-year contract. The deal was completed after Leinart worked to show he has fully recovered from a broken left collarbone that cut short his 2011 season.

Minnesota running back Caleb King was released from jail with no charges filed against him on Tuesday, then was cut by the Vikings a few hours later. King was arrested in an alleged beating outside a birthday party on Saturday.

Washington released veteran Jabar Gaffney, the Redskins' leading receiver last season with 68 catches for 947 yards.

Houston waived receiver Jacoby Jones after five seasons. Jones caught only 31 passes for 512 yards last season, and the Texans drafted Ohio State receiver DeVier Posey in the third round and Michigan State's Keshawn Martin in the fourth, making Jones expendable.
