Jacqueline Woodson at the Philadelphia Free Library
Children's author Jacqueline Woodson will appear at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Central Library on the Parkway in honor of National Children's Book Week.
Woodson, the author of books including Show Way (a Newbery Honor Book) , The Other Side, and Locomotion, will share her stories about becoming a writer and what inspires her work. Guests can participate in a question-and-answer session with Woodson, who is also a winner of the American Library Association's Coretta Scott King Award.
Jacqueline Woodson, 2 p.m. Saturday at the Central Library of the Free Library of Philadelphia, Montgomery Auditorium, 1901 Vine St. Free. Library hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Closed holidays.
Wild About Moms at Brandywine Zoo
For Mother's Day, take mom out to experience the wild side at Brandywine Zoo's Wild About Moms.
Children can honor their mothers and guardians by making a special holiday craft.
Guests and their mothers can see the Birds in Action show. During the live show, visitors will learn about bird behaviors and watch hawks, owls, and parrots fly and maneuver in the air through the canopy and return to their handlers. Mother's Day activities are scheduled 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and are free with general admission.
